Performing at the March for Our Lives in 2018.

Fostering sensitivity and inclusivity among her online community is something she won’t compromise on. “The most important thing is to have each other’s backs,” she told Coveteur. “When you see something or hear something that’s upsetting, or someone says something that’s upsetting, even if it’s not to you, just say something and be there and support each other.… It’s about the sisterhood. There’s no competing in that. We have to lift each other up, not try and claw each other down.”

She’s also plugged in to what’s happening in the world around her. She has been harshly critical of President Trump and his policies. “In tears” on Election Night, she railed against Trump and his politics of divisiveness. “Let’s please be active and vocal every day toward making each other feel accepted and loved for our differences,” she urged her Twitter followers. “Not just on election day. please. It’s the only way we will be able to get through what could possibly be a very dark few years.”

She rallied her fan base to get out there and vote. She’s a gun-control advocate, a supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement, and an ardent feminist (from a long line of them, natch). She walked alongside her mother and Nonna at the Women’s March, performed at the March for Our Lives following the devastating Parkland school shooting, and played the Concert for Charlottesville benefit after violent protests broke out in the Virginia city. Citing her fortitude, Time magazine put her on its cover as one of its “Next Generation Leaders” in 2018.
